The History of Bare Island
1770 - Captain James Cook named Bare Island because it looked bare.
1880 - 1887 - First construction of the fort and bridge by McLeod.
1887 - 1912 - Second construction on the whole island by de Wolski and others (was release early for military services in 1895).
1902 - Starting to use island for the military uses (lasted for 10 years)
1912 - Used as a wars veteran home for people who fought in China, Crimea and Sudan.
1963 - c. 1975 - Randwick Historical Society Museum becomes caretaker of Bare Island.
1975 - present - NPWS (National Parks and Wildlife Services) becomes caretaker of Bare Island.
