Lithosphere
|
The lithosphere of Bare Island is mostly made up of sandstone but the land on the other side of the bridge is made up of sandstone and soil. The island itself is formed by the strong tides coming into the bay. The tides forces itself (cut) into the rock leaving a dent or cave this process is a type of erosion and it is called wave-cut notches (seen in slideshow on left). The rubble on the sides of the island are called rock platform. These are formed by wave-cut notches which fall down because of pressure and gravity (seen in slideshow on left). Humans have impacted on the lithosphere by littering and taking/ breaking rocks from the island and taking it back home as souvenirs.

By taking rock and littering can cause a big impact because:
People have started to manage this problem by placing signs around saying no littering and take your rubbish with you and placing more bin around the area.
- You are taking bits and pieces from the wave cycle which will change drastically if you take too much out.
- You can harm the soil by littering which will change the acidity and the plants will start to die which will cause the land on the other side of the bridge become unstable.
